Pilot Assist 2
Volvo’s Park Assist Pilot 2 was designed with you in mind. Volvo wanted to make your drive both easier, and more enjoyable. At this time, there are 3 vehicles that have Park Assist Pilot 2 – the 2017 S90, the upcoming V90 Cross Country, and the 2017 Volvo XC90.
This system works up to speeds of about 80 MPH. The Pilot Assist technology brakes and accelerates to keep the set speed that you choose. Your vehicle will also slightly steer itself to help you stay in your lane.
Volvo’s auto brake system is called City Safety. Drivers can depend on this system to work both day and night, and in any weather condition. It helps to prevent accidents with pedestrians, cyclists, and even the car in front of you – all of which are very common causes of accidents. Something special to add to the new Pilot Assist 2 is that the car will now also brake at intersections if you cross the path of an incoming car. That’s something to be extra thankful for because it is one extra direction that Volvo is protecting you from.
Another feature that customers love, is the new incredibly easy way to park in tight spaces. Park Assist Pilot will find a suitable space for itself and can reverse into the spot or even parallel park itself. It will deem a spot as “suitable” even if it as small as just 1.2x the size of your vehicle. The Volvo will steer itself, but you, the driver, are in charge of moving the gear into ‘drive’ or ‘reverse’ when the car alerts you to. You will also be required to control the brake and the accelerator pedals.
