Volvo Delivers Fuel-Efficiency with Automatic Transmission

When shopping for a new or used car, you want to make sure the designers behind it have done everything possible to create the best automotive formula out there. Sometimes this requires bending the rules, in a very good way. Well, Lovering Volvo in Nashua is pleased to tell you that Volvo has done just that. Instead of accepting the bogus rule that high fuel-efficiency must come with a manual transmission, the Swedish automaker chose to break the mold.

Wowing consumers and critics alike, Volvo generated an eco-friendly, 1.6-liter diesel that comes with an automatic transmission. Peter Mertens, Sr. Vice President of Research and Development, explains, "For the first time ever, we have managed to bring the fuel consumption in variants with automatic gearbox down to the same level as in the manual versions. An impressive achievement by our powertrain experts."1

First to get the unprecedented powertrain option include the following new Volvo models: S60, V60, V70 and S80. In addition to reconstructing our notion of eco-friendly diesel variants, Volvo has also put a fair amount of work into improving petrol options. For example, engineers recently got a 1.6-liter T3 down to only 135-g/km in carbon dioxide emissions. Mertens tells us that Volvo "optimized the gearbox gearing for maximum fuel efficiency without losing the engine characteristics."2

Sounds like a good deal to us! If you'd like to experience the Volvo green thumb, be sure to swing by Lovering Volvo in Nashua at 180 Daniel Webster Hwy Nashua, NH 03060 during our regular business hours. Or, simply contact us online and we'll set up a test drive for you in advance!
