Volvo Leaves the Smallest Carbon Footprint

Lovering Volvo in Nashua is excited to announce that the auto brand we love the most is the European leader in CO2 emission reduction. While other automakers cut their carbon footprint by an average of two to six percent, Volvo achieved a reduction of nine percent. How do we know this? Every year the European Federation for Transport and Environment (T&E) directly calculates the amount of CO2 a company produces in order to determine who is actually putting forth their best green effort.

It's always nice to gain recognition for hard work but a number-one title isn't the most important thing for Volvo. If that were the case then the already successful company wouldn't be striving to do even better. Peter Mertens, Senior VP of Research and Development says, "The aim is to come down to an average of 95 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre across our total car sales in 2020."1

To give you a comparison, the average new vehicle sold in Europe today comes with an emissions rate of 140 grams/km. The goal may seem challenging, but the determination to achieve a greener environment is what truly sets Volvo apart. And while there may be a few obstacles like legislation developments, energy availability and customer demand in the way, Mertens believes that reaching such reduction levels is possible.

Lovering Volvo in Nashua certainly believes in the automaker's potential as well. Especially considering the fact that Volvo has already produced such successful new Volvo models as the Volvo C70.
