Volvo Breaks Into the European Hybrid Market with the V60

In the face of change, there is always a possibility that something must be sacrificed. More specifically, we acknowledge that with a shift to green cars, greater fuel efficiency sometimes comes at the expense of performance. At this point in time, that sacrifice is not something most consumers would like to make. Thankfully though, European Volvo drivers don't have to. The Scandinavian automaker has announced that a new Volvo V60 plug-in diesel hybrid will head to Europe's auto market in 2012.
A product of the partnership between Volvo and Swedish energy supplier Vattenfall, the V60 hybrid will see a fuel economy equal to 124 mpg and put out only 49 g/km of carbon dioxide emissions. The powertrain consists of a 2.4-liter five-cylinder diesel engine and an electric motor. Together, the two will deliver 281 hp and 472 pound-feet of torque, and enable the Volvo EV to accelerate from 0-60 miles in less than 6.9 seconds. For those worried about lengthy charging time, cast your concern aside. While some electric vehicle owners can spend up to 20 hours plugging in, the V60 needs only five. Additionally, the model will reduce fuel costs by two-thirds, a significant change from the traditional model with only a combustion engine.
While the Volvo V60 is certain to produce fuel economy and performance, its creation isn't just about making money for the companies involved. For Volvo, it's about driving one mile closer to an environmentally aware society. Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO, adds, "This project shows how co-operation between experts in different areas brings us closer to the transition from individually carbon dioxide-lean products to a climate-smart lifestyle."1
Though the V60 hybrid will be produced exclusively for the European market, Lovering Volvo in Nashua is content with the high-performing new Volvo models available at 180 Daniel Webster Hwy Nashua, NH. Plus, we've heard that the automaker is also working on developing a 100-percent electric version of the Volvo C30 electric. Make sure to keep checking back for more information on the C30 and other upcoming Volvo models.
